Matt Cutts has already stated that Google has a plan to expand its search engines in general, taking a more social approach to incorporate calendars and something similar, and also smartphone websites. So it is clear the giants are looking forward to growing with the 4 billion world-wide mobile phones - not to mention the one billion personal computers.

But before you can understand where smartphone websites are heading, and what is available for them, you must have an idea of what 2010 is bringing to the wireless industry.

The iPad has been creating quite a hype, with it's ipad. It promises up to 64 GB flash storage, with a speaker and microphone, and the capability to flip between portrait and landscape view.

It also claims to solve some of the problems associated with tiny phone screens. It's been released as fast, but it is not met with universal approval.

For one thing, its internet browser obviously does not support Flash, so this is one of the smartphone websites issues that the mobile technology will have to solve.

And there has been a "surprise" negative reaction from the woman internet population, many of them all apparently quickly related it to sanitary napkins, the moment they heard the name.

Nokia N961 is getting much more positive reception, with its rotating screen, high definition graphics, light weight, camera and sliding model. It works with MP4 as well as tradition MP3 formats, as well as a 256 mb micro SD car, and Bluetooth technology that can actually let you move files to another device.

According to the Herald, quoting a press release by John Ruffolo, we can count on "network traffic jams" - but Ruffolo proceeds to foretell heavy growth in the areas of:

eBooks for SmartPhones, PC's and tablets
internet tablets (like the iPad)
Micro payments for articles (that's a good idea for marketers to take note of!)
heavy online sales, disrupting the advertising market

So it is not just my opinion. Despite expected traffic jams, increases in rates to combat over-heavy data usage and the infamously named iPad mobile technology and smartphone websites are not going anywhere soon!
